How to get rid of negative people in your life

As we all know, the world is full of negative people (and toxic ones too). Surely you have at least one friend on social media who constantly complains about their life or someone from the work environment who is never happy about someone else’s success.

These are the people who will suck your positive energy and you need to remove them from your life. It is up to you to decide who they are, and whether and how to get rid of them, because each of us has our own tolerance threshold for enduring negative energy.

If you are just plain tired of having any contact with them and you often wonder How to get rid of negative people, there are several ways to do it, after which you will be able to dedicate your time to your happiness and well-being.

Why should you get rid of negative individuals

When you are surrounded by positive people who have the same view of life as you, you will notice that your energy levels are the same. The same thing happens when you are surrounded by negative people, who have a habit of drawing energy from those around them.

I personally know certain people who, when they enter a room, the energy level drops significantly, while some people simply radiate beautiful, positive energy.

Negative comments may affect your thoughts

Negative people are not known as “energy vampires” for nothing. The main problem with these people is that when you spend a longer period of time with them – you start to observe the world the way they observe it. Instead of positive thoughts, negative ones appear more frequently.

This kind of change in behavior creeps up on you and in the blink of an eye, you change your way of thinking without even feeling it.

They create drama everywhere they go

I can stand drama only in a TV show or in a movie. What I’ve noticed throughout the years of being surrounded by negative people is that they all have one trait in common – the love for drama. They often create drama when there is no place for it or overreact dramatically in situations.

Negative people adore drama and that is not something you need in your life.

The impact they have on others

Besides radiating negative energy, toxic people can’t use words of praise. They always have snarky comments and they do that in such a good way that makes you think about it as logical and even believe in it.

We all go through hard periods in life when we need support and in those moments we want to be surrounded by those who will encourage us and comfort us. We shouldn’t be next to someone who is gonna do the opposite of that. Find people who lift you up, not bring you down.

Let them know they have negative affect on others

Sometimes negative people are unaware of their behavior and the impact they have on others. Pessimism and dark thoughts have become their established behavior and they often reach a point where they can’t lead a single conversation without a snarky comment.

When that’s the case, gently and subtly let them know that they are difficult to be around. That just might be what it takes to keep them in your life without having to deal with negative energy and remarks.

Life is too precious for negative things, people and feelings

I think life is just not long enough for us to expose ourselves to negative energy and people. In most cases, those people bring nothing good to our life and I’d rather spend my time with positive and happy people.

Toxic people will discourage you and bring you down. Once you get rid of them, you’ll notice very fast how positive energy and thoughts come back to your life.

Take responsibility for your actions

No matter how toxic a person is, at the end we are the ones perceiving that as negative. Once you recognize that negativity is the product of your comprehension of that person. Take accountability for your actions. Every characteristic of a person we can interpret in a positive or a negative way. Learn to see the good in people and not the bad. This may be hard to do at first but once you get the hang of it, it becomes a second nature.

Remember that this process is a marathon rather than a sprint. The key to success is to continuously dedicate your time to happiness and progress, and negative people will always be present in your life in some way. It is up to you to decide how much power you give them and how you allow them to affect you.

You are not obligated to be surrounded by negative individuals no matter what your relationship might be. Whatever the reason, people grow and change, and it’s completely natural to end some relationships or stray apart. In the end, happiness is an inside job, and never give someone power to control that.
