Recycling – let’s save the Earth together
Recycling is the action or process of converting waste into reusable material. When we take something old and make something new out of it, when we make new useful products from waste.
Recycling is one of the most important activities we can take on if we want to reduce the pollution of our planet… More than 50 billion tons of waste is dumped in a single year.
Frequently recycled items
Paper and cardboard (reinforced cardboard, newspapers, office paper, posters, unusable books, old photographs, greeting cards, magazines, paper bags). One ton of collected paper saves 17 trees from being cut down. By recycling paper, we save many forests, rivers, lakes and thus many other living beings that depend on them in some way.
Glass (bottles, plates, cups, bowls). Recycling glass saves as much as 50% of energy compared to the production of pure glass, and recycling just one glass saves enough energy for a 100 Watt light bulb to burn for hours, figuratively speaking.
Steel – is completely recyclable, and is one of the most recycled materials in the world. Most of the recycled steel comes from a variety of industries, but you can also find much of it in your own home. Steel cans, paint cans, and white goods are just some of the things you can collect in your household and take away for recycling.
Plastic (boxes, bottles, bags, sacks) – many plastic materials can be reused if properly sorted. Plastic (waste) recycling reduces electricity consumption, which means that it contributes to reducing harmful gas emissions.
Computers – By giving away used computers as a gift to friends or charities, we prevent them from ending up in the junk yard, and we are also doing a good deed.
Even cars can be recycled – recycling cars is a great way to make money, while doing a good thing for the environment.
Electronic and electrical waste – includes a wide range of electrical appliances and various equipment. It includes products such as TVs, refrigerators, air conditioners, etc.
Why is recycling important?
The environmental benefits of recycling are numerous. Recycling prevents millions of wasted items and materials from ending up in landfills. Landfills are toxic to the environment and spoil the look of the place where they are located. Recycling saves energy spent on the production of new materials.
Environmental protection
For example, when we go out on a trip in nature and we forget something behind, it will take from a few months to several hundred years for this to break down. Why wouldn’t we recycle all that garbage? Recycling reduces the need for extraction, treating and processing of raw materials, all of which cause water and air pollution, which are essential for life.
Saving natural resources
By recycling used materials we get a new product, which means that the use of natural resources is reduced. The raw material resources of our planet are very limited, and they must be used wisely and rationally so that we do not end up in a situation where the shortage of oil, coal and wood becomes an everyday issue.
Power saving
The use of recycled material greatly reduces energy consumption. With a little willpower and a new way of looking at life, each of us can get involved and embrace positive recycling habits. Remember that the only person you can influence is yourself, and together with a change of consciousness we can change the world.
Three principles of recycling
1. REUSE – Use again
2. REDUCE – Reduce consumption
3. RECYCLE – Convert waste materials into new materials and objects
